5 Essentials for a Well Decorated Living Room

I'm a mom, wife, podcast junkie & Realtor.  In this blog, we talk about key real estate topics and explore what it means to create a life we love living.

Hi! I'm Kaylynn

Do you want your living room to look like a page out of an interior design magazine?

Here are 5 items you should incorporate to get the look:

1. A large area rug – this is the piece that pulls it all together! If you don’t want to splurge on a 9×12 rug, you could get a smaller size to layer over a neutral rug that isn’t quite as expensive.

2. Furniture that meshes but doesn’t match. So think of going to a large furniture store where they have the mock living room setups. Matching couch, loveseat and chair to go with the end tables, coffee table and entertainment center that matches too. But to get that designer style, this isn’t what you want! Instead, try pairing a couch with a chair made of a different material. Or mismatched end tables that compliment each other but don’t match exactly. Mix it up!

3. Bring in the outdoors – Never underestimate the power of greenery in your living space. Even if it’s “faux” greenery, it will add a pop of color to your space. Try a faux olive tree and put it in a cute wicker, decorative basket.
4. Lots of accent lighting! Recessed lighting is nice but not to get that stylish look. You’ll want to pull in a variety of lamps and accent lighting. The arched floor lamps give a space a defining look if it works in your living room layout. Or try one standing lamp, some scones by the fireplace and a table lamp or two.

5. A focal point mirror. If you have a mantel or go to spot for a mirror, invest in a piece that fits the space perfectly. One of my favorites is the Gleaming Primrose Mirror from Anthropologie.
